Black History Month

Join West Atlanta Watershed as we highlight the iconic figures that came from the Bush Mountain and Richland Hills neighborhoods as well as show the current community how everyday people fought for environmental justice.  We will uplift their stories to etched into history, as Black neighbors who persevered through systemic oppression and racism.

Our History Told By Our Community

Since 2022, Daisy Mugford, Environmental Heritage Curator for WAWA, has spearheaded and coordinated Black History Month efforts. The goal and purpose is to uplift, educate and create experience for the community to feel and learn the history of local black icons as well as taboo Black culture practices like sustainability, herbal healing and spiritual practices. As we celebrate 50 Years of the OAC, this year's celebration will highlight community leaders who have impacted our neighborhood and the nature within it.
